Former East Orange Football Player, Irvington Dad Killed In Newark Shooting

Ty'Shad Campbell was just 27 years old when he was killed in a shooting in Newark on Sunday, Jan. 14.

At 4:25 a.m., Newark police responded to the 300 block of Grove Street and found Campbell outside the location suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Campbell was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead soon after, Stephens and Fragé said.

Campbell's family has set up a fundraiser to assist with funeral costs. As of Wednesday, Jan. 17, $450 has been raised. The funeral is scheduled for Sat, Jan. 20, according to the fundraiser.

"Ty'Shad was a beloved father, son, brother, cousin and great-grandson," Lyndon Brown, who organized the fundraiser said. "This loss has left our family and friends devastated."

A 2015 graduate of East Orange Campus High School, Campbell played wide receiver and cornerback for the Jaguars.
